About Todor

Some of you might know that for almost two years, I have been dating an amazing, smart and wonderful man from Bulgaria, Todor Georgiev. Todor and I met at the LDS Business College during the fall semester of 2009.

In the summer of 2010 he started experiencing some chest pain. Age 26 and at the peak of health, he ignored the pain - thinking it was just due to fatigue. At the end of October 2010, he began to have severe pain in the same area. This time he went to see a doctor. After some intense tests, the doctors found a fist-sized tumor in the top left part of his chest. A biopsy that November confirmed our fears – cancer. He was officially diagnosed with B-cell Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Since his diagnosis, Todor has faced this challenge with optimism, hope and faith. He has done all he could to fight this disease. But after five months and more than seven chemotherapy treatments, a CT PET scan revealed that the tumor had only shrunk by 50 percent. Due to ineffectiveness, his oncologist decided to discontinue his treatment.

Since the discontinuation of treatment, we have met with other oncologists, radiation therapy doctors, and two bone marrow transplant doctors. Finally, it was concluded that Todor needed to start new type of chemotherapy, followed by a bone marrow transplant. This treatment will give him best chances for a long-term cure.

We continue to remain optimistic and are grateful for this new treatment option. Unfortunately, while his student insurance covers a significant part of the chemotherapy, it will not cover the bone marrow transplant. The bone marrow transplant is an extremely expensive medical procedure and we simply cannot afford to pay for it without help. If you can donate even a few dollars, it will make a big difference in helping Todor get the treatment he needs to have a long, healthy life and a bright future. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your love, support and prayers. They mean so much to us!
